Hortensia Herrero Art Centre

  • Valencia, Spain
  • 2023 – present
  • Cultural mediation

The Hortensia Herrero Art Centre (CAHH) is housed in the iconic Valeriola Palace, a 17th-century Baroque architectural gem.

Opened in November 2023, this cultural space hosts the contemporary art collection of Hortensia Herrero, renowned patron and president of the foundation that bears her name.

The collection brings together works by more than 50 nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, including Anselm Kiefer, Anish Kapoor, Olafur Eliasson, Jaume Plensa, Miquel Barceló, Cristina Iglesias and Manolo Valdés. Several of these pieces were conceived specifically to engage in dialogue with the architectural setting of the palace, creating a unique interaction between the art and the space that houses it.

Alongside the artistic route, the centre offers visitors the chance to view valuable archaeological remains integrated into the museum itinerary, such as fragments of an ancient Roman circus, a medieval Jewish quarter alleyway, and remains from the Islamic period.

Cultural management

Global Menta’s cultural management at CAHH is defined by a comprehensive, professional approach that combines visitor services, cultural mediation and the activation of the exhibition space.

A cornerstone of this management is the selection and training of a professional team skilled both in visitor care and in communicating the artistic content. Acting as active mediators in the galleries, these professionals facilitate dialogue between the public and the artworks, adapting their discourse to the needs and interests of each visitor profile.

The cultural management strategy aligns with the values of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, prioritising accessibility, excellence in mediation, and the promotion of contemporary art in dialogue with a unique historic setting.

Content design and mediation

We design and deliver guided tours for the general public, school groups and exclusive visits, offering itineraries that integrate both the contemporary art collection and the building’s heritage elements.

Our work focuses on enabling a meaningful connection between the visitor, contemporary art and the historical heritage of the Palacio de Valeriola. To achieve this, we prioritise ongoing training for our team, specialising in art, cultural mediation and heritage conservation.
